GrantGrant, 13, was diagnosed with leukemia July 2015. He spent the first 5 weeks of treatment at Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital, where everything that could go wrong, did. In October, he developed a fungal infection throughout his entire body. Every organ was filled with fungus, which then moved into his brain. The family was told on multiple occasions he wouldn’t make it. He stopped eating and was on IV nutrition for 4 months. Grant stayed in the hospital from October 2015 to March 2016, but he fought hard and made it through. It wasn't easy - Grant went blind in one eye from the fungus, had to learn to walk again, and needed a gastric tube to eat, which was later removed in 2016. He will continue to receive treatments until 2018.
